Choice of steel

Four factors can affect zinc coating:

• 1. Carbon content over 0.25%.
• 2. Content between 0.04% and 0.15% or over 0.22% of silicon that can cause puffing of the intermetallic layers faster than for steel that has silicon levels below 0.04% or between 0.15% and 0.22%.
• 3. Phosphorus over 0.04%.
• 4. Manganese over 1.3%.
